Selection Camp

Selection Camp:

All invited athletes will start the Selection Camp “Phase I” for the Junior Women’s 4x & Junior Men’s 4x.  The camp will be held at GMS Rowing Center, New Milford, CT from June 13th to July 3rd, 2010. Between June 27th and July 3rd athletes will be selected into the different sub categories (World Championship Team, High Performance Team and CanAmMex Team). “Phase II” for the selection camp will run from July 4th until the end of Junior Worlds (August 8th) at GMS Rowing Center and in London, England.

Housing for Junior Men and Junior Women will be at two different locations. The Junior Men’s housing is about one mile away & the Junior Women’s housing is about four miles away from GMS Rowing Center.  Exact locations of athlete housing will be provided prior to Selection Camp invitation distribution. All athlete housing will have permanent Chaperones living at the same locations for the duration of camp.

At the Selection Camp, the Head Coach will select crews based on the following factors, which are listed in no particular order:

• 2010-2011 National Team Testing
• Athlete’s compatibility with rest of crew
• 2k Test Score at the camp absolute and weight related
• Time trial in singles at the camp
• Doubles matrix during the camp
• Competitive performance during training sessions
• Overall performance at the Selection Camp

World’s Team Camp Costs:

  • Cost of Phase I is $2200
  • Cost of Phase II is $2400

High Performance Team (2011 Junior Women only):

After Phase I the “next fastest” 4 rowers from Camp will be prepared for international racing as the “High Performance -Team”. “Phase II” will run from July 4th till end of Germany trip (July 29th tentative) in New London, CT and Germany.

High Performance Team Camp Cost:

  • Cost of Phase I is $2200
  • Cost of Phase II is $2400

The HP Team will train and race (scrimmage) in Berlin, Germany from July 19 to July 29 (tentative dates).

CanAmMex Team:

The CanAmMex regatta provides a development opportunity for 4 male and female rowers who are age eligible. The focus will be on how to train, increasing their technical skill set and on learning how to prepare physically and mentally for international competition. They will represent the U.S. in the sculling events at the CanAmMex Regatta in July 2011.

1. “Phase I” for the CanAmMex Team will be held at GMS Rowing Center, New Milford, CT from June 13th to July 3rd, 2011
2. “Phase II” will run from July 4th till travel day after CanAmMex Regatta.
